Constraint programming provides a powerful new approach to solving complex combinatorial problems. This workshop will provide a detailed introduction to constraint logic programming (CLP) and constraint programming toolkits. It will be practical in focus, identifying applications for which constraint programming is the method of choice and provide hands-on programming with the CLP language ECLiPSe and the ILOG-SOLVER toolkit.
Cost:
$250Cost includes morning and afternoon tea plus course notes.
$200 for ASOR members and/or APORS'97 registrants
$150 for fulltime students
Presenters:
Vincent is the Director of Consulting for ILOG Singapore, in-charge of consulting activities for its regional strategic customers in the area of resource optimization. He did the first year of his PhD in 1987, specialising in Operations Research and Constraint Propagation techniques. He completed his Masters in Computer Science in Orsay University in 1986.
Kim has numerous publications in the area of constraint programming. While working as a Research Scientist at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, he developed the QOCA constraint solving toolkit for graphical applications and, since moving to Monash University as a Senior Lecturer in the Computer Science Department, he has been involved in implementation of CLP systems. Together with Peter Stuckey he has recently written an introductory text on constraint programming which will be published early next year by MIT Press. He has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Melbourne.
Peter has been involved with constraint programming from its inception. He developed with Jaffar precursors to the constraint logic programming (CLP) scheme, and is one of the authors of one of the first CLP languages, CLP(R). He is now a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Melbourne and has a PhD in Computer Science from Monash University.
